Side Azura – PADI dive center

Side is undoubtedly one of the most famous historical places of Turkey.
The city was founded on a peninsula around the 7th century B.C. and the ancient name of this port means pomegranate.

Side is primarily known for its beautiful ruins, beaches and shopping centers where you especially can shop for gold and leather. You also can enjoy your time here at the many fine cafes and restaurants that serve Turkish and other cuisine. Or immerse yourself in the nightlife until the early hours in one of the many bars.

The narrow side streets are bursting of the many typical Turkish handicraft shops. One of the most famous attractions is the ancient theater, and it is with its loggia, the oldest in the region. It has the seating capacity of 15.000 people so don't miss the view! Other monuments that are worth to visit are the Temple of Apollo which is located on the harbor, a fountain and an acropolis. The great Roman baths have been converted into museums where one of the finest archaeological collections is on display.

Scuba diving is a wonderful activity that can be done by experienced divers, but by newcomers and children as well. It’s a wonderful activity that can be done by the whole family! You can explore a world that others can’t see or only dream about. Unlike snorkeling, with diving you can really enter that other, almost magical world, which makes it a truly special thing to do.

Discover Scuba Diving

This is by far the most chosen option by our guests.

Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. We offer this program either in a pool, off a beach or from a dive boat. While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

What you will learn

  • You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of our PADI Professional.
  • If you make an open water dive, you’ll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure.
  • This great experience is divided in 3 parts: Theory: We will explain to you a certain amount of theory and we will make sure that you understand the important rules of diving. The lesson will be short and concise, designed to inform you but not to confuse you. Pool/beach: Our professional instructor will demonstrate the basic skills required to dive. Once you have had a chance to see how it all works in the water, it will be your turn to give it a go. Under the ever watchful eye of our instructor you will see your diving skill level develop in this safe learning environment. The pool/beach session will prepare you for the next step. Ocean dives: When you are comfortable with the skills, you will dive among marine life in shallow water.
  • The dive will last about 45 minutes, depending on your comfort level. You will be surprised by how quickly you will relax!

Scuba Diver

This course is a subset of the PADI Open Water Diver course. If you’re short on time but really want to become a diver, the PADI Scuba Diver rating might be right for you   ̶ particularly if you expect to go scuba diving primarily with a dive guide. This course is an intermediate step for earning an Open Water Diver certification, if that’s your ultimate goal.
PADI Scuba Divers are qualified to:

  • Dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
  • Obtain air fills, rent or purchase scuba equipment and participate in dive activities as long as properly supervised.
  • Continue dive training by completing the PADI Open Water Diver certification and taking certain specialty diver courses.

What you will learn

  • Knowledge Development to understand basic principles of scuba diving – just the first three of five sections of the Open Water Diver course.
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills – just the first three of five dives of the Open Water Diver course
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore – just two of four dives of the Open Water Diver course.

Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course is a complete, carefully structured entry level scuba diving course designed to take you from a non-diver with little or no prior experience to a certified diver. The certification is recognized worldwide and is valid for life, to a maximum depth of 18 meters / 60 feet. The course uses videos, audio, graphics and reading to help you learn, plus short quizzes that let you gauge your progress, and then offers a review of anything you happen to miss. You develop dive skills during actual dives with our PADI Instructor.

What you will learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three distinct sections:

  • Theory: The theory portion of the open water course includes book work, videos, study questions, and quizzes, divided in 5 dive theory modules. Don’t worry, it’s easier than it sounds!
  • Pool Work: During pool (or “confined water”) class, you practice basic diving skills in the pool. You will practice all the skills that you use on open water dives like ear equalization and mask removal and replacement in this controlled environment before entering the open water.
  • Open Water Dives: Under the watchful eye of our instructor, you will apply the knowledge and skills learned in the theory and pool sections of the course on real open water dives.

Scuba Review

If you have not dived for a while, then you will benefit from refreshing your diving knowledge & skills. PADI Scuba Review is designed to help you develop confidence & ensure you remember how to dive safely. Any PADI certified diver who wants a refresher or pre-travel update should do a Refreshment. Dive shops appreciate seeing a recent ReActivate date on your certification card because it means you’re ready to dive in.

What you will learn

  • You go over scuba knowledge you learned during your initial training.
  • Then, practice fundamental skills in the pool or at the beach.
  • In the water, our Instructor will help you regain comfort and confidence in scuba diving.
  • You’ll practice a few safety-related skills and then go over anything you specifically want to review.

Advanced Open Water

Exploration, Excitement, Experiences. That’s what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of our PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving.

What you will learn

  • The knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have, but include: Practical aspects of deep diving. Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving. More ways to use your underwater compass.

Rescue Diver

Scuba divers describe the PADI Rescue Diver course as the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they’ve ever taken. Why? Because you learn to prevent and manage problems in the water, and become more confident in your skills as a diver, knowing that you can help others if needed. During the course, you learn to become a better buddy by practicing problem solving skills until they become second nature. Plus, the course is just fun – it’s serious, but still allows for lots of laughter in between the focused learning.

What you will learn

The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares you to deal with dive emergencies, minor and major, using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, you learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you put into practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include:

  • Self rescue
  • Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Rescuing panicked divers
  • Rescuing unresponsive divers

Dive Master

Love scuba diving? Want to share it with others on a whole new level? Take the PADI Divemaster course and do what you love to do as a career. Scuba divers look up to divemasters because they are leaders who mentor and motivate others. As a divemaster, you not only get to dive a lot, but also experience the joy of seeing others have as much fun diving as you do. The PADI Divemaster course is your first level of professional training. Working closely with our PADI Instructor, you’ll fine-tune your dive skills, like perfecting the effortless hover, and refine your rescue skills so you anticipate and easily solve common problems. You’ll gain dive knowledge, management and supervision abilities so you become a role model to divers everywhere. As a PADI Divemaster, you’ll lead others as you supervise scuba diving activities and assist with diver training.

What you will learn

  • The PADI Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. Through knowledge development sessions, waterskills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessment, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities.

Minimum age

The minimum age to participate is 14 years.

Depending in which hotel you’re staying we’re using the pool from Arcanus Side Resort or Voyage Sorgun. The standard depth of 140 cm is perfect for young divers, trainings, try-outs, and for beginners who want to give it a try despite fears or nervousness. For the children pool games are offered with full diving equipment. A bladefish (underwater scooter) may also be used.
For children and adults who don’t like to do deeper dives, we offer dives from the beach or pier. Especially for novice divers it’s a good start if you think the pool is too dull. You just need to suit up and walk into the sea. This dive goes to a depth of 2,5 to 3 meters and you will be surprised how much fish and other marine life you can see in summer.
Our most popular location is ‘Turtle Reef’ and you can already guess why! On this location you’re not only able to see a lot of fish, but in summer season we give almost a 100% guarantee that you will see the beautiful Caretta Caretta. Almost, because we are handed over to the will of nature. If the turtles let us, we can make awesome pictures from you with them. Many examples can be found on our facebook page. What else to see? You’re also able to see the so called ‘sea rabbits’, octopuses, moray eels, rays, grouper fishes and barracudas. The depth is between 5 and 7 meters and the transfer time is about 3 minutes by boat.
This location is at the opposite of the dive center. The transfer time is about 3 minutes by boat and the depth goes to 10 to 12 meters. What can you see? Perhaps you’ll see turtles, moray eels, barracudas, grouper fish and rays but of course we can’t give a guarantee. The name is borrowed from the bike that you can find since many years on this location.
When you go to Ralphs Reef, you’ll descent to 18 – 20 mt. That’s why this location is only for certified divers. When you dive at this location you’re likely to see Ralph, our big Grouper friend. The location is very near to our center so the transfer time is about 5 minutes by boat.
This is a wonderful location that can be entered by novice and certified divers. This location is near Side, about 3 km from shore so the transfer time is about 10 to 15 minutes by boat. The visibility is most of the time excellent. The dive starts at 6 to 7 meters and slowly descends to 12 mt. when you go to the cave. Because of the possibilities we can go here with both newcomers and certified divers but if we go with newcomers we’ll not go deeper than 7 mt. What to see? Here you can see turtles, barracudas in bigger groups, a larger  diversity of fish, sea rabbits, rays, tuna fish, and special fishes that only live in the cave and remnants of a wooden wreck. Since June 2015 it’s also possible to see a part of the Side Underwater Museum.
The Side | Underwater Museum is a new dive location for Scuba divers. It is the second underwater museum in the world and the first in Europe. The museum is divided in 5 parts with a depth varying between 7 and 25 meters. The site has various dioramas including ‘Whirling Dervish’, ‘War of Independence’, ‘the Temple of Poseidon’, ‘caravan of camels’ and ‘Flower Garden’ and contains a total of 110 sculptures.
Camel Road is a brand new location nearby Side. The travel time by boat is approx. 10 to 15 minutes and the dive goes to a maximum depth of 20 meters. What you can see? Like the name says, you can see real-sized statues of camels. This location is a part of the Side Underwater Museum.
For our advanced divers it’s possible to wreck dive. The name of the wreck is TCSG-117 (Turkish Sea Guard). The wreck is moored in 2008. The last rest-place lays 3 km in front of the coast of Side.  The length of the wreck is 30 meters and the maximum depth is 25 meters. The transfer time is about 10 to 15 minutes by boat.
